News from others
There's not a lot of new information to report from my end. But, I have heard back from our friend Bob and he had a few new details about his project.
The schoolhouse they were going to be building has been asked to be built by the Sri Lankan government. So instead, they will be helping to build 75 3-room homes for village fishermen near Galle. Who knows what we'll be doing by the time April comes.
Bob also shared a few links to stories I thought you might enjoy. The first article is about a 54-year old West Virginia man who is in Sri Lanka now with Global Crossroad. And the second article is actually about Bob and his hometown fundraising efforts for his trip to Sri Lanka which, by the way, he leaves for tomorrow! Good luck and safe travels Bob!
This week I'll be shopping for a new pack. All my luggage is well, luggage. I need a pack so I can get up and move wherever and whenever I need to go while over there. Luckily packs are a lot cheaper and lighter these days so it won't push the budget too much. I'll need to pick up a mosquito net while I'm shopping as well. It seems that's no joke over there and you don't want to be their snack all night while you sleep.
Mosquito nets, work boots, gloves, and DEET. I'm ready to go now and it seems very odd to go through more preparation than time will actually be spent helping. It almost feels too contrived but, this is way out of my comfort zone so this method seemed the best way for a first time volunteer to help. Perhaps, if the need arose again I'll be able to apply what I've learned here and act quicker in the future. Tom Petty said it best, "the waiting is the hardest part."
